Tallulah Brown Van Zee

Tallulah Brown Van Zee is a visual storyteller based in Washington, D.C. Tallulah creates images that highlight the beauty of community. She constantly searches for new sources of human connection. Tallulah believes there are limitless reasons to relate to others — love, opposition, need, or convenience — and she strives to find a new purpose with each story.

Tallulah’s endless pursuit of community-driven storytelling has taken her to vastly different places. From the intimate home of a Washington, D.C. drag queen to the celebration of Eid Mubarak in Nima, Ghana, Tallulah has learned that human connection has no requirements or barriers. With her camera, Tallulah defines, questions, and redefines the meaning of the human experience.

In her work, Tallulah shows the often-overlooked importance of strength-in-numbers. Tallulah believes long-lasting solutions to persisting issues sprout from community-driven initiatives. Therefore, Tallulah sees her projects as an instrument that foster community growth and inspire change.

Tallulah was raised in Seal Beach, California and received her BA from the University of Oregon in Journalism and International Relations. She is currently pursuing her MA in New Media Photojournalism at George Washington University. Before pursuing photojournalism in Washington, D.C., Tallulah worked at non-profit organizations in the public health sector.
